Don’t miss

Browse the upstairs reading library, then grab a coffee next door

The world's most famous English-language bookshop — still a working literary haven.

Why we love it

George Whitman opened this legendary bookshop in 1951 as a haven for writers and readers. The tradition continues under his daughter Sylvia: writers still sleep among the shelves ('tumbleweeds'), and the upstairs reading library overlooking Notre-Dame is one of Paris's most magical spaces. Buy a book, get it stamped, and linger.
