Fresh seasonal fruit from the outdoor stalls, and rotisserie chicken

“Paris's most democratic market — where chefs and grandmothers shop side by side.”
Why we love it
While tourists flock to Rue Mouffetard, Parisians come to Aligre. The outdoor market on Place d'Aligre is wonderfully scruffy and cheap (the end-of-day €1 boxes of produce are legendary). The covered Beauvau market inside has exceptional cheese, meat, and fish vendors. Come on a Saturday morning and finish with coffee at one of the surrounding cafés.
